Every autumn, when the maple leaves turn brilliant red, the quiet residential streets near Tofukuji Temple and Sennyu-ji Temple in Kyoto come alive with pottery stalls.
The Momiji Festival at the Kilns transforms this neighborhood into an open-air market, where local ceramic artists and kilns present their works.
Here, you can stroll through the streets, chat directly with Kyoto’s artisans, and purchase a wide variety of Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki pottery – from traditional tea bowls to modern tableware. It’s also a rare chance to experience the atmosphere of everyday Kyoto life while enjoying shopping.
November 22 (Sat), 23 (Sun), 24 (Mon, national holiday), 29 (Sat), 30 (Sun)

If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see beautiful autumn leaves. In recent years, Japan has been affected by global warming, and the autumn foliage tends to appear later each year.
